Aging Doesn’t Have to Feel so Lonely

With age comes wisdom, life experience, and the opportunity to provide love, support, and guidance to those around you. Unfortunately, for many of us, there are also negative outcomes of the inevitable aging process. Loss of loved ones, illness, and countless life transitions can weigh on you. Finding the joy and passion for living that you once had is not out of your reach just because you’re aging. In fact, you may find you have even more to be joyful about. I’m Michelle Halle, a licensed clinical social worker and therapist in Lakewood, NJ. I enjoy working with those in the aging community to appreciate their life and wisdom, enjoy their time, and live more satisfying lives. Aging can be difficult, but it can also be wonderful. Let’s work together to appreciate the complexities of life at any age.

When the Golden Years seem Tarnished

Aging is complicated. Are you struggling to adjust to this new stage in your life? If any of the following descriptions sound familiar, talking with me may be the right choice for you:

  • You’ve suffered the loss of your spouse and you wonder whether your grief will ever go away

  • You were supposed to grow old together, but they’re gone now. You were not emotionally prepared for a life alone.

  • You’ve learned to carry on, but it feels like a life of lifelessness.

  • You count your blessings, but you feel conflicted. You want to find a way to live a meaningful life.

  • You’re independent.  You’re active and healthy, but still, you feel sad and lonely.

  • You chastise yourself for feeling gloomy.

  • You hate feeling like a fifth wheel when you’re with your friends.

  • You feel guilty and think, “What have I got to complain about?”

  • You feel fortunate. You still drive, and have lots of life left in you, but you don’t know what to do with it.
